"Who wants to live forever?”: Posthumous chatbots

The development of posthumous chatbots became really popular with the deceased celebrities (e.g. the chatbots of Prince and David Bowie). Recently, the trend went further with the 3D virtual holograms of the deceased movie stars (e.g. when the late Carrie Fisher “appeared” in the last Star Wars movies after death, even saying on screen what she hadn’t said alive). Currently, an MIT startup Eternime is developing the posthumous chatbot project for the masses, promising to allow people to be “virtually immortal.” While some suggest that posthumous chatbots allow for an extended healing, others argue that they in parallel exacerbate the issues of letting go, grievance and change the value of life and death.
