Sustainable Tourism Specialist is a national badge system for the identification and recognition of sustainable tourism competences at higher education level (EQF 6). A sustainable tourism specialist develops and manages sustainable tourism at organisational level. The badge system includes six badges and a metabadge: 1. Local cultures and traditions 2. Sustainability communication 3. Partnerships and stakeholders 4. Accessibility and diversity 5. Product development 6. Assessment of societal impacts. The badge system is currently available in Finnish, English and Swedish. A North Sami language version will be published at a later stage. The badge system can be used as part of online courses on sustainable tourism, in which case the skills will be assessed by the teaching staff at the university. The badge system has been produced as part of the JOTPA-funded Kestävän matkailun osaamismerkistö -project. It is managed and distributed to higher education institutions by Turku University of Applied Sciences.
