The course is designed for doctoral researchers at Åbo Akademi University. The recommendation is to complete the course in the beginning of the doctoral studies (during the first or second year of study). The 2 ECTS course is a self-study course and consists of independent online work. The course includes nine modules, which provide the basics of the following themes: publishing and open access, research data management, research ethics, data protection, efficient dissemination of research results, information literacy, open education and open educational resources, and other transparent research practices. Learning objectives and transferable skills. At the completion of this course, you will be able to
- describe the central elements of responsible research.
- define central directives concerning research ethics and identify key ethical issues. - state the importance and benefits of open access in scholarly publishing, both for yourself and your field of research. - describe the advantages of planning research data management and identify key issues in responsible research data management. - assess which measures have to be taken in case the research data/materials contain personal data. - describe how information literacy and managing references contribute to establishing responsible research practices. - identify different ways of increasing the dissemination of your research results. - explain which aspects need to be considered when making educational materials openly available and how other aspects of learning can be made more open. - explain how other research practices within your field of research can be made more transparent.
