Experiencias de dolor y estrategias de autocuidado en la dismenorrea primaria: un proyecto de investigación cualitativa
Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is defined as painful, spasmodic cramps in the lower abdomen ,in the absence of pelvic organic pathology, which may radiate to the lower backand thighs, accompanied by other systemic symptoms. These appear with the onset of menstruation and can last up to 72 hours. Between 50% and 90% of the female population suffers from PD. Few women consult a professional, preferring not to use treatment or self-treat. Between 38-80% of women self-medicate. The use of physiotherapy interventions is rarely used.
