Elaboración de Fichas de Rocas Ornamentales y Desarrollo de Itinerarios Geoturísticos y Didácticos en la Ciudad de Murcia

In this Master’s dissertation ornamental rocks files are created and geotouristic and didactic
itineraries of the city of Murcia are developed. These are done using a methodology that combines literature
search, fieldwork, office work and consultation with experts on the field. The most common rocks from the
older to the younger ones are identified and described.
Finally three geological itineraries in the center of the city are created. By using these itineraries
people will be able to spot the rocks mentioned above.
The research project stands together with sustainable development goal number 11 from the 2030
Agenda, which aims at protecting the world’s natural heritage.
This project’s main objective is to showcase urban geodiversity fostering the conservation of
geological heritage and its educational and touristic use , including the creation of learning materials and
geotourism itineraries which will allow citizens to visit, get to know and appreciate local geodiversity.
Furthermore, the importance of the Region of Murcia is highlighted, as it is one with a wonderful geologic
diversity and vast natural and cultural heritage.
