E2-1.4 ValiDE Task Sheet: Entre les murs

This group activity was developed for the ValiDE Online Course so that trinational student teams get to know each other while engaging in a first collaborative exploration of the theme Values in Democracy Education. The task is designed to be carried out online and combines film analysis, reflection, and collaborative writing.

The students begin by watching a short video excerpt from "Entre les murs" and work together to agree on a description of the conflict shown in the scene. They then reflect on the teacher’s behaviour, select relevant competences and descriptors from a given framework, and collaboratively rewrite the scene with alternative actions and outcomes. Finally, the groups share their reflections, discuss their perspectives, and link their insights to wider concepts of democracy and democratic values.

The activity aims to promote intercultural collaboration in trinational teams, to strengthen competences of critical reflection, democratic dialogue, and perspective-taking, and to connect a concrete classroom situation to broader questions of democracy and education. It can be integrated into both school and higher education contexts, for example in civic education, intercultural learning, teacher training, or any course that encourages learners to explore democratic values in practice. It is particularly well suited for group work settings that deal with issues of democracy, values, classroom interaction, and intercultural perspectives.
