The ValiDE Study Course was developed as part of the Erasmus+ project ValiDE – Values in Democracy Education. It consists of three interconnected modules: a seminar, a preparatory online course, and an international exchange program. Together, these components form a comprehensive learning offer designed to equip student teachers with key competencies for promoting values education and democracy learning in primary education.
The course has already been successfully tested and evaluated with student teachers as well as students from other educational fields. The flexible modular structure allows for adaptation across a variety of higher education contexts.
Participants may complete the full course or attend selected parts only – such as the seminar, the online preparation, or the exchange program. The modular design supports integration into different national and institutional teacher education programs.
Course Structure
• Online preparation course – Introduces basic concepts and theoretical foundations related to values and democracy education.
• Seminar (on-site or blended) – Engages students in reflective learning, scenario-based work, and collaborative planning.
• Exchange program – Offers international experience, peer exchange, and intercultural learning through cooperation with partner institutions.
The materials provide a modular overview of the course structure, enabling flexible implementation, and presents best-practice examples that were developed and evaluated during the ValiDE project and can serve as inspiration or templates.
