Criptoginia y (Re)nombrado de las calles de Santiago de la Ribera : una visión feminista del callejero del pueblo

In this paper it is analyzed the gender gap in the street names of Santiago de la Ribera (San Javier) and proposes a renaming system from a feminist perspective. Based on a literature review of feminism and previous studies on cryptogyny in street names, the names of the 286 streets in the district are examined. These are then classified by type of naming: names of men, women, families, or other. The results reveal a marked inequality: only three streets are dedicated to women with a specific legal identity, compared to 40 men with individualized recognition. Furthermore, most of the female street names correspond to religious or mythological figures, further reducing the representation of real women. It is concluded that the street names of Santiago de la Ribera reflect a masculinized collective memory that needs to be reviewed and balanced to build a more equitable public space. In this regard, some candidates for naming and renaming streets, squares, and buildings are identified and proposed, some of them with direct links to the town.
