Board games in libraries – a material for independent study gives a deep review on new board games. Topics of the material include components, history, classification, designers, publishers and specialty stores of board games, awards of the field and board game hobbyists and clubs. The last chapter applies things learned on previous chapters into all aspects of the library field, emphasizing especially acquisition, descriptive metadata, and practical library work. Primary material of this work includes an expert interview about the acquisition of board games, a literature review, and an English to Finnish board game dictionary.
The material’s target audience is professionals and students of the library field.
Earlier experience on board games is not required.
